Harald Seelig, PhD, is a lecturer and research associate at the Department of Sport, Exercise and Health at the University of Basel. His research and teachings areas cover methodology, evaluation, quality management, physical activity, health science, and sport psychology. He is committed to advancing these fields through his own research, consulting and supporting research projects, and peer review activities for various scientific journals. Since 2021, he has served as a member of both the Examination Board and the “Quality of Teaching” Committee at the Department of Sport, Exercise and Health at the University of Basel, where he contributes to maintaining and enhancing teaching standards.

Harald’s academic background includes a PhD in Sport and Exercise Science & Cognitive Science from the University of Freiburg in 2000, as well as a Master of Arts (aka “Magister Artium”) in Sport and Exercise Science, Psychology & Cognitive Science from the same university in 1997. Additionally in 2018, he completed a Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) in “Civilian Peacebuilding Essentials” (at swisspeace and University of Basel) to broaden his perspectives. From 2013 to 2019, he held the position of Vice President (Ressort: Early Career Researchers) for the German Association of Sport Psychology (asp), where he was particularly engaged in promoting young researchers.

His professional career is characterized by a strong link between empirical research, teaching, and methodological consulting. For over 25 years, he has offered continuing education courses, primarily in research methods, sharing his expertise with researchers, practitioners, and students. Since 2013, he has worked as a research associate and lecturer at the Department of Sport, Exercise and Health at the University of Basel, designing courses on methodological foundations, evaluation designs, and health science issues while supervising different research projects. Prior to this, from 2008 to 2013, he served as a supervisor and acting manager at the Methodological Support Centre of the Freiburg/Bad Säckingen Rehabilitation Research Network (affiliated with the Institute of Psychology at the University of Freiburg), where he provided methodological support and advice for rehabilitation research projects. Concurrently, he taught at the Institute of Sport Science at the University of Freiburg from 2009 to 2013, imparting knowledge in empirical social research and sport psychology. The professional/academic journey began at the Institute for Computer Science and Society (Department: Cognitive Science) at the University of Freiburg, where he worked as a research associate from 1998 to 2000. This was followed by positions as a lecturer and research associate (2000–2002) and postdoctoral fellow (2002–2008) at the Institute of Sport Science at the University of Freiburg, where he focused on developing and validating measurement instruments and analyzing physical activity and health data.
