Patrick Carigiet is currently a PhD Student at the Department of Sport, Exercise and Health, where he is part of the Research Group Psychosocial Health and Physical Activity. He joined the Department in 2024 where he was mainly involved in organizing, coaching and establishing the “Zentrum für Bewegungsberatung”.

His academic background is rooted in Clinical and Social Psychology at the University of Basel. In his master’s thesis at the Department of Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy, he conducted a systematic review on mental illness stigma in low- and middle-income countries. He also worked as a research assistant in Social Psychology, focusing on trust and vulnerability.

His research focuses on exercise addiction, with particular emphasis on its conceptual and clinical definition, as well as on identifying the threshold between healthy exercise behavior and pathological patterns.

In addition, he contributes to teaching, including the interdisciplinary seminar “Mentale Prozesse im Sport”, which explores key sports psychology theories through the lens of athletes’ biographies. The seminar combines practical experience with empirical evidence to provide students with a deeper understanding of psychological processes in sport.
